Namo Drone Didi Scheme: Transforming Women-Led SHGs with Agricultural Drones.
The Namo Drone Didi scheme, launched by the Indian government, is an initiative designed to empower women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by integrating drone technology into farming. Running from 2024-25 to 2025-26, the program will provide drones to 15,000 selected SHGs, enabling them to offer agricultural services such as pesticide and fertilizer spraying. The scheme aims to improve the financial independence of rural women, with each SHG expected to generate an additional ₹1 lakh annually, fostering economic stability and sustainability.
Under the initiative, women-led SHGs will receive an 80% subsidy on the purchase of drones, with a cap of ₹8 lakh, while the remaining amount will be covered by low-interest loans (3%) from the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF). The program also includes drone pilot training, which will allow SHGs to offer services like spraying and earn an additional ₹1 lakh annually. The scheme is designed to equip women with essential skills in drone technology, such as crop monitoring, soil analysis, and precision farming. This training not only encourages financial independence but also promotes women's active participation in the growing technological sector. The use of drones improves agricultural efficiency by enabling precise application of fertilizers and pesticides, minimizing waste and environmental impact. Participants will also learn modern agricultural techniques, including soil health management and irrigation efficiency. Additionally, the program offers a robust support network, providing access to industry experts, workshops, and opportunities for sharing knowledge.
PM MODI'S VISION FOR WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY :
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently handed drones to 1,000 Namo Drone Didis, showcasing their abilities at 10 locations across India. This initiative will train women from 15,000 SHGs to become certified drone pilots, assisting with agricultural tasks like crop monitoring and fertilizer spraying. The scheme opens new income-generating opportunities for women and encourages their involvement in India's technological growth. PM Modi stressed that women’s contributions in fields like IT, space, and science are essential for India's advancement, with the Namo Drone Didi scheme playing a key role in empowering rural women to lead in technology and drive economic growth.
